Glucose Tolerance Test

 What Is Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) ?

  •  A test that measure body's ability to handle certain amount of glucose in fasting 

                

 Uses Of Test :

  •  Detecting gestational diabetes
  •  Differentiate between prediabetic and diabetic patient .


 How is this test done ?

  • At least 8 hours Fasting is required .
  •  Fasting Sample is taken
  •  Patient Is given certain amount of glucose .
  •  Samples are collected aftet 1 hour & 2 hour .

 Is any Instruction given before the test ?

  •  patient should have 8 hours fasting
  •  For gestational diabetes , test Should be performed between 24 - 28 weeks of gestation .

                    

 How is this test Interpreted ?

  •  For Diabetics Fasting Blood glucose > 125 mg/dl .
  •  After 2 hours > 200 mg/dl .
  •  For gestational Fasting glucose > 92 mg/dl .
  •  At 1 hours > 180 mg/dl .
  • After 2 hours > 153 mg/dl .
